It gives me great bragging rights
down here at the moment to see young
Irish boys walking straight into the
elite level of the AFL. It makes me
wonder though at the health of the
GAA when so many talented Irish kids
turn up to AFL camps in Ireland to
test their wares with the Aussie mob.
I'dlike to see these kids tell them
to get back on the boat and back up
their own game a litle more. I suppose
only a few actually stick it out,
but the clubs down here are now talking
about a huge talent search after the
succes of the gaelic boys here from
Sean Wight and Jimmy Stynes to Kennelly,
the O'Hailpin boys, Colm Begley and
now Marty. I'm from Derry originally
and I love my Gaelic football. I'd
hate to see it undermined by a stronger
professional organisation.

a quick note to thank you for allowing
us convicts to steal Marty Clarke
to play for my much beloved Collingwood
in the AFL. He's making his
debut tonight against Sydney.
Must be some talent.
If
it helps at all, my in-laws are from
Ireland as well, so there's the smallest
of links. My father-in-laws
sister and husband live in Kilkeel.
Vera and Dermott Doyle. Just
thought I'd throw that in.
Anyway
keep producing fine young men like
Marty and proving that your boys,
like Tadgh Kennelly, are all heart.
