An Riocht met Warrenpoint in the championship
and emerged victorious after a close call.
An Riocht were very good in the opening
quarter, moving the ball fast while the
‘Point were slow in their build up. An Riocht
led 2:5 to 0:1 but missed several other
chances to kill the game before there was
a complete turn around either side of the
break with the visitors levelling at 2:6
to 3:3 minutes into the second half.
Having lost their way An
Riocht struggled to impose their earlier
direct style and the result was very much
in doubt until Darren Cunningham was switched
to mid field and An Riocht finished strongly
to win by two, 2:12 to 3:7. Best on this
occasion were Michael Rodgers, Christopher
Killen and Gary Cunningham in defence and
Johnny White and Adrian Arterton in attack.
Scorers:
D Cunningham 1:3, J White 1:2, D Ross 0:4,
A Arterton 0:1, L Harper 0:1, C Walsh 0:1.
On Sunday Rostrevor came
to Dunavil and An Riocht had to win to maintain
an interest in the league. We began well
and led throughout the first half to go
in seven four to the good at the break.
Reds enjoyed a good start to the second
half and a punched goal put them briefly
ahead before Darren Cunningham came in on
the end of a length of the field move to
shoot to the net and restore our advantage.
Several memorable points flowed after that
and by the final whistle An Riocht led 1:15
to 1:9. Damian Sherry, Chris Killen, Fergal
Doyle and Liam Harper were very good on
Sunday.
Scorers:
D Cunningham 1:0, F Doyle 0:4, D Ross 0:3,
C Sloan 0:3, J White 0:3, L Harper 0:2.
