An Riocht U16's retain Danny Flynn Cup - 13/10/03

U16 'A' All County Football Championship Final
An Riocht v Castlewellan

In the U16 championship An Riocht retained the Danny Flynn cup with a facile win over East Down Champions Castlewellan. Displaying good vision and an ability to deliver long accurate passes and shots An Riocht won at their leisure. They were 8 nil up when Paddy Cordell plundered the first goal. Ten minutes later Martin Clarke burst through for another and at the break led 2:10 to 0:2.

Though they made wholesale positional and personnel changes at half time An Riocht never relinquished control of the match and had added 5 more points before Castlewellan sub fisted their goal. Within a minute Declan Ross replied in kind and another sub Liam Harper tucked away the fourth. Goalie Ruairi Doran advanced upfield to kick a point and powerhouse captain Paul Sherry added the last in the closing moments.

For the second week running An Riocht produced a breathtaking team display in which there were no obvious weaknesses. The midfield pairing of Sherry and Colgan dominated possession while in an underworked defence full back Walsh grows in stature with every outing. In attack the movement could not be any better with Noel Mc Ardle and Pearse Cunningham particularly impressive. All An Riochts 4:21 came from play.
