Senior
Football Clonduff 1:11
An Riocht 1:9 15/05/2005
In Clonduff the seniors
gave a heartening
display that will
hopefully stop the rot
recently set in. With as
many as eight first team
regulars missing the
players on duty
performed beyond
expectations and
deserved to take
something from the game.
We were rocked when
Clonduff goaled in the
first minute and when
they added a free it did
not look good but the
players dug deep and
adopting a direct style
of play brought the game
into the Clonduff half
of the field.
A Stephen
Flanagan goal off a
Ciaran Walsh cross
lifted everyone and we
went 1:5 to 1:1 ahead.
Three frees helped the
home side to a draw at
half time 1:6 apiece.
Clonduff opened a two
point gap on the restart
and amazingly the game
then remained scoreless
for some twenty minutes
until they added a
third. We drew level
with the hour played and
were searching for a
winner when they broke
and won a fifty which
Jason Brown converted
and from the kick out
Plunkett McConville
added his fourth free.
We scored
eight of our nine points
from play, a huge
improvement on last week
while Clonduff had seven
converted frees in their
total of eleven points.
Gavin Finnegan brought
off two brilliant saves
in the second half while
Aidan Flanagan settled
rightly into full back.
Paul Sherry and Deaglan
O’Reilly were best in a
good defence. Paul
Murney gave everything
at midfield while up
front there were no lost
causes with Stephen
Flanagan throwing
himself at everything
and Richard Annett
picking up the pieces.
