Senior
Football An Riocht v
Bryansford 06/06/2005
The
seniors got off the mark
on Friday night with a
draw against Bryansford.
Yet again we conceded an
early goal, Colm
Kearney’s looping cross
well gathered and rifled
to the net by Conor
Gribben.
Free
kicks from John and
Martin Clarke kept An
Riocht in touch and as
the half progressed we
began to play some
refreshingly direct
football and were good
value for our 0:9 to 1:2
interval lead. Indeed
Peter Travers was forced
into two fine saves to
deny first John Clarke,
then Paddy Cole.
Bryansford came more
into it as we lost our
grip at midfield in the
second half but kicked
some poor wides. At the
other end we began to
take a touch too much
and the pace went out of
our play.
John
Clarke fisted us 0:12 to
1:6 ahead with a quarter
hour to play but
Bryansford got a
deserved draw in the
final minutes with three
unanswered scores. Aidan
Flanagan, Aidan
Cunningham and Colin
Flanagan (first half)
were best in defence;
the midfield and
forwards faded after the
break and the changes
did not improve things.
In the
first half John Clarke,
Paddy Cole and Ciaran
Walsh impressed while
Martin Clarke was the
top player on the pitch
