Senior
Football An Riocht v
Mayobridge 11/04/2005
An encouraging enough
display as long as it is
used as a stepping stone
to better things in the
games ahead. Yes two
poor goals were conceded
in the first half, yes
some hurried and wayward
shooting in the second
half cost scores which
could have delivered us
something from the match
and yes several players
under performed on the
day, that happens. But
on the positive side our
team improved as the
game went on, took some
fine scores before the
break, looked to have a
better balance after the
break and generally
stood up to the
intensity of the
Mayobridge play.
Consistency is now the
key.
This was
a top notch first
division game with the
result in doubt into
added time at the end.
Neil Doran gave us a
dream start with a
penalty goal after a
foul on John Clarke.
John Quinn cut in along
the end line to shoot
low for an equaliser.
With Ciaran Walsh
showing great accuracy
we led much of the half
until Robbie Coulter
fisted their second goal
at the back post and at
the break we trailed 2:6
to 1:5. Twice the
deficit was cut to two
points as we outscored
them in the second half
but they were always
able to add a free to
stop us making it a one
point game. Brendan
McVeigh made a
tremendous save one on
one with Noel Sexton
midway through the half
but up front we should
have turned enough
possession into more
scores.
A minutes
silence was observed
before the game in
memory of George McClory
(RIP) father of Club
referee Peter.
