U16 Football Mitchels v An Riocht  06/09/2005
The U16 footballers failed to complete a League and Championship double when we found Mitchels too big and powerful and not bad players in the FC Final on Saturday. Still coming from where this team was two years ago these players can feel their season was a success.

U16 Football Mayobridge v An Riocht 29/08/2005

In Mayobridge An Riocht received the ‘B’ League shield and went on to win with goals from Kyle Morris (2) and Christopher Killen.

U16 Atticall v An Riocht 22/08/2005
The under sixteens were a few short for this game and it showed in a poor first half display but things were put right at the break and we eventually ran out clear winners. The Division Two Shield will be presented at the match in Mayobridge on Tuesday.

Og Sport U15 seven-a-sides  15/08/2005
An Riocht disappointed in the Og Sport on Saturday at Newry and were home after the group stages.

U16 An Riocht v Annaclone 15/08/2005
The U16 moved closer to the league Title with a pair of handy points as Annaclone failed to travel.

U16 An Riocht v Mayobridge 08/08/2005

On Tuesday An Riocht overcame Mayobridge 4:13 to 5:3 to reach the Championship final. This pair last met in knock out football in the U14 final of 2003 which the ‘Bridge won so this result can be viewed as an indicator that our players are improving all the time which is most welcome.

It all started so differently with the ‘Bridge goaling in their first two attacks and hitting the post in the third. Gradually we settled and though Paddy Gartland came close to a goal we trailed 2:1 to 0:4 at the break.

On the restart a couple of Christopher Killen points left us trailing by the minimum before Diarmuid Flanagan tore along the end line and fired to the roof of the net to put us ahead for the first time. But Mayobridge swept to the other end and scored their third goal. Back up the field and the visitors keeper saved well to deny Diarmuid but from the kick out Paddy caught and immediately released to Christopher who made no mistake from close range. However within moments the ‘Bridge had punched a fourth goal. This time it was our turn to claim an instant reply and Conor Cole finished well to the net for a 3:9 to 4:3 score line. Conor Doyle and Kyle Morris both tested the woodwork before Diarmuid goaled again under the dropping ball but once more the ‘Bridge advanced and won a penalty which Ethan Burns saved though he was helpless moments later as they crashed in their fifth goal. A strong finish from Christopher left us with ten points to spare at the final whistle.

David Sloan, Conor Phillips and Conor Doyle were best at the back, Wayne Bowater and Christopher Killen worked hard at midfield, while Michael Spiers, Paddy Gartland and Conor Cole caught the eye in that score laden second period.

In a reassuring show of commitment two players returned from the Gaeltacht in Donegal for the match and thanks are due to those who transported them.

U16 Mitchels v An Riocht

In Newry An Riocht took a big step towards the League Title with a ten point victory over third placed Mitchels. The home side started strongly but gradually An Riocht got on top and a Kyle Morris goal helped put daylight between the teams. Christopher Cunningham in defence, Christopher Killen at midfield and Paddy Gartland (0:3) in attack were key players in the success.

U16 Football Glasdrumman v An Riocht 25/07/2005

In the Championship replay three goals from Darren Doyle and two from Paddy Gartland helped An Riocht to a semi-final meeting with Mayobridge. Michael Spiers had a stormer at half forward.

U16 Football An Riocht v Clonduff 19/06/2005
This meeting of the top two in the league was a cracking affair and closer than our winning margin of 3:11 to 1:5 suggests. Though Christopher Killen opened the scoring with a point we were rocked when Clonduff goaled in their first attack. However both defences were on top and further scores were hard to come by. Christopher Cunningham, Conor Phillips and Gerard Keenan were particularly strong in our full back line. Another Killen free and a fine point from Darren Doyle on the turn after a high catch levelled the match in the eighteenth minute. The visitors went back in front but then our first goal arrived. Conor Doyle placed Shane White and he played the ball ahead off Diarmuid Flanagan who ran onto it and cut along the end line before lashing a fierce shot to the roof of the net. Pressing our advantage Paddy Gartland foraged around the mid field, gathered possession and fed Killen who pointed from distance, then sub Rory Cunningham added another off a Darren White pass as we threatened to put the game beyond Clonduff. But the visitors were far from finished and opened us up in the closing moments only to be denied a goal by a match winning save from Ethan Burns at the expense of a point. At half time our lead was 1:5 to 1:2.

We enjoyed a great restart. Kyle Morris and Wayne Bowater added points, Clonduff replied with a free. Then Ethan made another important save and began a move that led to Killens fourth point. Still only six minutes into the half and Diarmuid Flanagans cross was met at the near post by Rory Cunningham who flicked the ball past the keeper to the net. Clonduff registered another free while Flanagan pointed from way out near the corner flag. In the forty fourth minute Clonduff were awarded a penalty which Burns saved and two minutes later Doyle and Killen combined to relieve the pressure with Flanagan bursting through the middle to goal and put us ten clear, 3:9 to 1:5. Then disaster struck as Christopher Killen limped out off the match with ten minutes remaining. A huge harrying effort denied Clonduff time on the ball to exploit our loss with Michael Spiers, David Sloan, Conor Cole and Mark McKay especially busy and on the break Rory Cunningham and Kyle Morris added points apiece for a handsome victory.

U16 Football Mayobridge v An Riocht 13/06/2005
For the second week in a row no referee meant no game.

U16 Football Atticall v An Riocht 13/06/2005
In the Championship on Sunday An Riocht repeated our earlier league success over local rivals Atticall.

U16 Football Atticall v An Riocht  06/06/2005

In the Championship no referee turned up so the game was not played.

U16 Football An Riocht v Longstone 30/05/2005

An Riocht completed a league double over neighbours Longstone on Tuesday though it was a tighter contest than the 5:13 to 0:15 score line suggests.

Conor Poland opened the scoring with two early points before An Riocht burst into action with a Christopher Killen goal off a Diarmuid Flanagan pass. Killen extended the lead with a point but the 'Stone were not finished yet and points from Poland, Michael Ireland and Gary Trainor put them back in front. A good point from Flanagan and another by Killen swung it back in our favour before Ireland equalised and then Ethan Burns saved well from Poland who followed up with a point to put his side ahead for the third time. Another couple from Killen and a classic score from Darren Doyle suggested we were about to pull away but the visitors finished the half strongly with points from Poland (2) and Adrian Burden to leave it all square at half time, 1:7 to 0:10.

Though Poland edged Longstone in front once more it was to be short lived and the last time they would lead as Christopher Cunningham and Conor Phillips continued to impress in our defence. At the other end a long ball from Wayne Bowater was touched on by Shane White and Darren Doyle goaled. In the next attack Killen rose, caught, turned and cut through the 'Stone defence at pace to goal and went on to kick the next three points.

Like scores from Trainor and Poland (2) kept Longstone in touch but after Doyle had pointed again Kyle Morris glided through the defence to shoot our fourth goal and Killen thundered in the fifth a short time later.

Poland pointed a free in reply but when Burns went full length to turn away his penalty and followed up with another excellent save the match was safe though Killen and Morris added late points for good measure.

U16 Football Annaclone v An Riocht  23/05/2005
The U16 boys made the long trip to Annaclone on Tuesday and came from behind at half time to win by seven points. In a difficult contest An Riocht owed much to the defending of Christopher Cunningham and Conor Doyle, the midfield mastery of Christopher Killen and the scoring exploits of goal getters Christopher Matthews and Kyle Morris. Darren White and Mark McKay were also prominent in attack. Killen (5) and Morris (3) bagged the majority of the points.

U16 Football An Riocht v Mitchels 15/05/2005
An Riocht inflicted Mitchels first defeat on Tuesday past at Dunavil and remain very much in contention for honours.

U16 Football An Riocht v Warrenpoint 09/05/2005
'A' League team Warrenpoint proved much too strong for An Riocht in the first round of the Championship at Dunavil and we now go to Atticall in the first round of the 'B' competition. Mark McKay pouched our goal in a heavy defeat, 1:3 to 6:15.

U16 Football An Riocht v Atticall 02/05/2005
After a close enough first quarter An Riocht, happy to be back on the wide open spaces of Dunavil, began to pass the ball about and create loads of chances. Conor Phillips and Conor Doyle were strong at the centre of defence while Christopher Killen and Wayne Bowater were paired for the first time at midfield to good effect. Diarmuid Flanagan, Darren Doyle and Paddy Gartland impressed in attack. Paddy Gartland grabbed a first half goal to help us to a 1:9 to 0:4 interval lead. Atticall were left to rue a succession of missed chances including a penalty as An Riocht moved up a gear and added further goals from Diarmuid Flanagan (2), Darren Doyle, Wayne Bowater and Michael Spiers for a comfortable victory.

U16 Football Clonduff v An Ríocht 19/04/2005
The u16 team lost a high scoring game in Clonduff by 3:18 to 4:10. Ethan Burns was generally safe in goals with Conor Phillips the pick of the defenders. Only two of our attackers scored. Elsewhere we were generally playing second fiddle to the home team who had a good sprinkling of useful players throughout their side. Despite the loss its more games like this that will help develop players. Scorers C Killen 0:5, D Doyle 2:0, C Doyle 1:2, D Flanagan 0:2, K Morris 1:1.

Under 16 Football Longstone v An Ríocht 05/04/2005

U16 Football An Riocht v Mayobridge 11/04/2005
An Riocht recorded a second straight win over visiting Mayobridge. The visitors shocked us with an early goal but once our forwards got into their stride they created some great chances which led to first half goals from Paddy Gartland and Darren Doyle and good points from Michael Spiers and Kyle Morris. Before the break Mayobridge enjoyed another spell which yielded a second goal to leave it 2:6 to 2:0. Shane White and Diarmuid Flanagan added second half goals as An Riocht ran out comfortable winners.

Under 16 Football An Riocht v Castlewellan 22/03/2005

Under 16 football v Abbey CBS Corn na nOg 25/01/2005
The U16 footballers entertained the Abbey at Dunavil on a wet and cold Saturday morning and both teams deserve credit for the quality of the football played.
The visitors started strongly and led early on before our boys got into their stride. Wayne Bowater volleyed wide from close range and Chris Killen (2), Darren Doyle and Paddy Gartland added points as the teams went in level at four all.
Killen goaled at the start of the second period and An Riocht really got going with further points from Doyle (3), Bowater and Killen and Kyle Morris ended the play with a second goal as we led 2:9 to 1:4.
In the final third twenty minutes the Abbey dominated for long periods. Two quick goals brought them back into contention while we replied with points from Killen, Diarmuid Flanagan and Miceal White. 2:12 to 3:5 down the Abbey nicked it at the finish with two goals in added time.
Team B Allen, S Sloan, C Cunningham, S Corr, R Cunningham, C Doyle, D Sloan, W Bowater, C Killlen, D White, D Flanagan, K Morris, M Spiers, D Doyle, P Gartland. Subs C Morgan, S O’ Connell, M White.
