U14 Football
Longstone v An Riocht.
29/08/2005
These boys bounced back
to clinch the league at
the Valley Road. On a
night when result was
more important than
performance our better
players were found in
defence with Ryan Clarke
and Michael Clarke
particularly impressive.
U14 Football Mitchels

At Mitchels An Riocht

programme with another
win and received the ‘B’
League Shield.
U14 FC Final An Riocht v
Shamrocks
22/08/2005
As expected
Shamrocks were too big
and strong and well
drilled in the FC final
but credit our team for
never giving up and
playing to the last
whistle. Declan Doyle
had a mighty game in
goals while Paul Allen
at centre half and
Michael Spiers at centre
forward were outstanding
for us. The Division Two
League Shield will be
presented at the match
in Mitchels on Thursday.
U14 An Riocht v
Annaclone.
15/08/2005
A
fantastic display of
goal keeping from
Declan Doyle helped
us to another win
over Annaclone.
U14FC Final
15/08/2005
The U14 footballers
are in the “B’
Championship Final
on Saturday in
Clonduff. Throw-in
12noon and support
would be welcome. As
U12 footballers two
years ago these boys
never won a single
game and their
appearance in this
final is reward for
the work they and
their coaches have
put in. Whatever the
result it is clear
progress is being
made.
U14 Tullylish v
An Riocht 08/08/2005
This difficult away
fixture was won by
two points, 5:11 to
4:12.
U14 Drumgath v An
Riocht
08/08/2005
Saturdays game
provided us with our
second brace of
points in three
days.
U14 An Riocht v
Annaclone.
08/08/2005
Only played on
Monday a report will
be carried next
week.
U14 An Riocht v
Drumgath
In the Championship
semi-final An Riocht
won in wintry
conditions before a
fair sized support
huddled against the
wind and rain which
hampered the playing
of attractive
football. We led six
nil when Drumgath
grabbed a goal which
brought them right
back into contention
but they struggled
to build on this
score and before the
break Diarmuid
Flanagan seized on a
ball over the top to
race goal ward and
net. At half time we
led 1:9 to 1:0. It
was more difficult
on the restart and
Drumgath edged the
second half but we
had done enough to
go through adding
odd scores during
the half. Declan
Doyle made a sound
debut in goals with
three great saves;
Paul Allen and
Stephen McVeigh were
the pick of the
defenders; while
Michael Spiers was
outstanding in mid
field, ably assisted
in the second half
by Ethan Burns.

Football An Riocht v
Ballymartin 19/06/2005
This was another good
team display. The backs
marked tight and used
the ball well especially
Daryl Bowater and
Stephen McVeigh.
Diarmuid Flanagan and
Stephen Corr were strong
at mid field and Ethan
Burns at full forward
finished with 3:7.
Michael Spiers caught
the eye with five long
range points and all the
subs got a run. These
boys have two big games
coming up this week. On
Thursday Annaclone visit
in the championship and
on Monday we play
unbeaten Tullylish in
what is also our
‘sponsored’ match.
U14
Football Atticall v An
Riocht 13/06/2005
Back in
Atticall for the second
time in a week An Riocht
scored another
convincing win. Stephen
Corr at full back and
Stephen McVeigh in the
corner were steady
throughout. Paul Allen
was good at centre half
scoring two points.
Diarmuid Flanagan used
the ball well bringing
other players into the
game and all six
forwards scored from
play, Ryan Donnelly
particularly impressive.

Football Atticall v An
Riocht 06/06/2005
It was
back to Atticall in the
Championship on Thursday
for the U14 footballers.
After a close first half
we ran away with it
after the break. Michael
Clarke was very good at
full back and Paul Allen
at centre half. On the
wings Daryl Bowater and
Michael Keenan were
steady while Stephen
Corr and Michael Spiers
dominated at mid field.
Ethan Burns came on for
the second half and
opened Atticall up with
an impressive array of
passes while Ashley
McLoughlin enjoyed a
good second half in
defence. Another sub
Michael Harper scored a
fine goal and full
forward Paul Rooney
chipped in with two more
while Diarmuid Flanagan
scored some good long
range points.

last Monday, An Riocht
put it up to the 'A'
Division side in the
Championship in Newry
before falling short by
six points, 2:15 to 2:9.
Philip Murnion played
well in goals with
several good saves while
Michael Clarke and Paul
Allen were the pick of
the backs. Ethan Burns
and Michael Spiers tried
hard in midfield while
Diarmuid Flanagan bagged
most of the scores.
Trailing by nine An

second half showing
before Bosco pulled away
again in the closing
moments of the match.

Football An Riocht v
Drumgath 23/05/2005
In Dunavil on Thursday
An Riocht had nine
points to spare over
Drumgath on a scoreline
of 4:13 to 3:7. We
played with the wind and
led 3:9 to 2:0 at the
break. Ashley McLoughlin,
Michael Keenan and Paul
Allen were best in the
backs where Philip
Murnion made a few good
saves and cleared the
ball cleverly. Diarmuid
Flanagan had a field day
at full forward in the
first half. All three
subs came on and did
well. Team: P Murnion A

This too was played on

this weeks notes.
U14
Football Annaclone v An
Riocht 15/05/2005
An Riocht
inflicted a first home
defeat on Annaclone by
5:10 to 2:6. They got
off to a dream start
with an opening goal and
a point but by the
fifteenth minute Ryan
Donnelly’s free put us
ahead and then Michael
Spiers soloed in for our
first goal. Annaclone
hit back and were only
denied by some heroic
defending from Michael
Clarke, Michael Keenan
and Conor Clarke and
then just before half
time Ethan Burns
finished a one two with
Michael Harper to the
net. Four points to the
good we stretched that
to six on the restart
but suffered a set back
when big midfielder
Diarmuid Flanagan limped
off. However before
Annaclone could take
advantage Paul Rooney,
Christopher O’Rourke and
Michael Spiers all fired
in goals to secure the
win. The team defended
well, moved the ball
quickly especially from
frees and took what
chances that came their
way. They have certainly
improved from their U12
campaign of two years
ago when not a single
league game was won and
Annaclone beat them in
the Championship.
U14
Football Feile
At
Downpatrick on Saturday
An Riocht played in the
top grade to give the
players, unbeaten in ‘B’
competition, some
experience. Though we
lost heavily to
Mayobridge and Kilcoo we
pushed Downpatrick all
the way and drew with
Bredagh.
U14
Football Aghaderg v An
Ríocht 27/04/2005
This was an exciting
game which flowed end to
end with An Ríochts
slicker attack making
more of the chances
which came their way.
Michael Clarke, Declan
White and Conor Clarke
were good at the back
while the midfield
pairing of Diarmuid
Flanagan and Ethan Burns
ensured the forwards had
a quality supply of ball
to work with. Trailing
7:4 to 0:3 the home side
rallied after the break
to make a real game of
it and scored 4:2 to our
3:5 to draw the second
half. Team: P Murnion, D
