KINGDOM GOOD FORM CONTINUES
An Riocht 3-07 (16) Ballycran 1-10 (13)
After a two week lay off the girls returned
to face the might of Ballycran at Dunaval
on Monday night. It would be interesting
to see if the lay off would do them damage
as Ballycran had faced Attical the week
before and would certainly be match sharp.
The game started at a tremendous pace with
a point from Ballycran.. But after five
minutes or so An Riocht began to find thier
feet and in an explosive 10 minutes they
rattled in 2 goals from Niamh Mulhern and
one from Sophie Colgan with Ballycran responding
with 2 points. Niamh Mulhern then recorded
a point for the home team. The lethal strike
force showed amazing talent and skill and
it was only a matter of time before more
points came 2 from Laura Brennan and one
from Emma Jane Magee. Ballycran never gave
up and finished the half the stronger of
the two sides registering a further 6 unanswered
scores
Half Time : An Riocht 3-04 (13) Ballycran
0-08
Ballycran must have fancied their chances
playing into the "big" goals in
the second half and they looked to be proved
right when they recorded a point and a goal
in quick succession. An Riocht stuck to
their task and points followed from Sophie
Colgan (free) Niamh Mulhern and Lisa Hughes.
Ballycran fired over a further point before
the close to leave a final score of
An Riocht 3-07 (16) Ballycran 1-10 (13)
This was a great tussle between two very
determined teams. Joanna Sloan in the Kingdom
goal was in unstoppable form and was ably
assisted by Louise Rodgers who came to the
rescue on a number of occassions. Marie
Trainor stuck admirably to her task at wing
back while Aishling Clarke made several
telling clearances before being replaced
by Nicole Kelly in the second half due to
injury. The midfield again showed their
determination with Ciar Cunningham playinga
real captains role ably supported by Aine
O Reilly who is starting to hit real form
and Clara Killen who gave it all in the
first half being replaced at half time in
a tactical move that necessitated Laura
Brennan moving to midfield to allow Lisa
Hughes to add force to the forward play.
Niamh Mulhern scored 3 magnificvent scores
to leave her currently the Top Shhoter while
Sophie Colgan was making huge strides at
Full forward with some magnificent fielding
and scores. Emma Jane Magee made some brillant
runs and tackles and will no doubt continue
to improve with additional match practice.
Great to see Lisa Hughes return from the
subs bench following her recent injury and
also seeing Nicole Kelly also coming on
to put in an excellent defensive performance
With 4 league games left competition for
places is at an all time high and with so
many versatile players on the bench the
first 12 will always need to be on their
toes in every game. It has been pointed
out to the contributor that a comment in
the last article in relation to Joe Baldwin
stated that he is an ex An Riocht member-
this should have read ex An Riocht Manager.
