Although An Riocht were only founded in
1982 there is a tradition of gaelic games
in the area going back to the 1920's with
the formation of the Young Irelands. This
team competed in the Warrenpoint and Mourne
League and the backbone of this team was
Fr. John McKee who had represented Antrim
in football and hurling.
When the Clubs of Greencastle and St. Colman's
came together in 1982 it united this area
of the Kingdom of Mourne as one and present
a strong base which was to see An Riocht
win the A.I.B. Club of the Year Category
'C' Award in Centenary Year.
An Riocht epitomise all that is good in
Gaelic Games. Famous family names include
the Donnans, O'Rourkes, McConvilles and
Sheehans.
